Embassy Suites Hotel Planned for Gulf Shores

A new luxury hotel and mixed development is planned for the public beachfront in Gulf Shores, AL. The $85 million project was revealed on June 19, 2018 by Mayor Robert Craft and DD Partners, LLC, a development team led by Ron Durham and Ron Day. Once permitting is approved, Embassy Suites by Hilton will break ground at the 1.93 acre parcel on the corner of West Beach Blvd and West 1st St. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2019 with a build time of 22 months. The first-class resort will span 398,000 square feet and offer 229 rooms, a fine dining restaurant, conference room/meeting spaces, ball room, full-service spa, fitness center, and indoor pool. A vast 23,000SF roof top terrace will feature an outdoor pool, bar and lounge with great vistas of newly revamped Gulf Place, public beaches, and the Gulf of Mexico. The Embassy Suites hotel is a welcomed addition to the ongoing Gulf Place Revitalization Project implemented by the city of Gulf Shores to create an engaging beachfront with pedestrian-friendly access to public beaches, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The $15 million enhancement project has already completed two of out its three phases with numerous improvements including a new beachfront promenade, renovated public restrooms, expanded public parking, and aesthetically-pleasing landscaping.

Both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have experienced a number of new developments and improvements in the past year. Restoration efforts are currently underway at Gulf State Park, one of the area's largest attractions featuring 6,500 acres of pine forests, marshland, fresh water lakes, and two miles of pristine sugar-white beaches. The park offers visitors a modern campground with numerous amenities and recreational activities such as kayak & bike rentals, Segway tours, outdoor swimming pool, 18-hole championship golf course, and 1,540 feet long fishing pier extending over the Gulf of Mexico. New additions to the park include two pedestrian bridges over East Beach Blvd, an interpretative center, learning campus, and a rebuilt beachfront lodge. Known as "The Lodge at Gulf State Park", the new lodge is managed by Hilton Hotels and is now accepting reservations for arrival dates beginning on February 1, 2019 and after. The restoration of Gulf State Park is one of multiple projects outlined in the city's overall objective Small Town, Big Beach Vision 2025 for Sustainability.
Phoenix developers have been busy with three beachfront condo projects in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Phoenix Gulf Shores is the newest high-rise condominium in Gulf Shores opening its doors to vacationers last summer. The 80-unit complex offers three- and four-bedroom gulf-facing units and great amenities include indoor/outdoor zero-entry pools, tennis courts, hot tubs, and fitness facility. A few miles eastward, construction sites at both Phoenix Orange Beach and Phoenix Orange Beach II have been bustling with activity to reach scheduled completion dates and the growing demand of beachgoers. Both of these developments will face the Gulf along Perdido Beach Blvd in the heart of Orange Beach. Units will offer modern furnishings with floor-to-ceiling windows, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, wet bars and ice-makers. Property amenities include desirable features such as beachside lazy rivers, heated indoor pools, hot tubs, high-speed elevators, and climate-controlled storage rooms.
