The Gulf Coast's Greatest Beach Party

Tens of thousands will make their way to the Alabama Florida state-line to partake in the region's largest beach party, Flora-Bama's Annual Interstate Mullet Toss.  This legendary event featuring a fish-throwing competition and three-day beach bash has been an ongoing tradition for more than three decades.  Drawing in a crowd of more than 35,000 attendees from all over the country, it is no surprise hotel rooms and condos are booked months and even a year out!  The competition takes place on the beach with fellow tossers standing inside a 10-foot circle on the Florida side.  Each competitor grabs a mullet, weighing approximately one pound, from the bucket and throws it as far as they can over the state-line onto the Alabama side.  Awards are given out daily, Friday through Sunday, in a total of 19 age categories with a male and female winner.  The mullet is a popular baitfish along the coast but is also a local delicacy served up various ways such as fried, blackened, or smoked.  Reserve your mullet to toss and receive an official Mullet Toss t-shirt for just a $15 entry fee.  Each year the event raises around $40,000 with all proceeds donated to several organizations including the Community Drug & Alcohol Council Inc., Local Boys & Girls Clubs, and youth groups.

If you prefer not to have smelly hands there are plenty of activities taking place throughout the day from live music on multiple stages, delicious food, DJs, vendor booths, sponsor giveaways, and contests.  Most people set up their beach chairs or tents on the powder-white beaches in front of the Bama or Phoenix X condominium. Spend the day cooling off in the emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, or just sit back, relax, and watch all the shenanigans happening on the beach.  Take a quick walk up to bar and indulge in a bushwacker, Flora-Bama's famous frozen cocktail, or order a plate of freshly shucked oysters on a half shell from the restaurant.  Other events taking place include the 22nd Annual Mullet Man Triathlon, 21st Annual Mullet Swing Golf Classic at Perdido Bay Golf Club, and the Mr. Mullet Toss & Miss Mullet Toss Contest.

Mullet Toss is guaranteed to be a fun-filled weekend featuring live music, games, and delicious food & drinks put on by Flora-Bama Lounge, Flora-Bama Yacht Club, and Flora-Bama Ole River Grill - all centered around the state-line.  This event is so popular that most Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Perdido Key condos are completely sold out during the three-day bash.  Even though traffic might be a bit of a headache down Perdido Beach Blvd, Mullet Toss is highly anticipated as the large influx of visitors generates millions of dollars of revenue to the area.  Looking for more exciting events taking place along the Gulf Coast?  Visit out our Events & Festivals page to find what's happening over the next several months - from Gulf Shores AL to Panama City FL.
