Moving right along schedule, the city of Gulf Shores is implementing the second phase of the Gulf Place Revitalization Project.  This massive effort will transform the city's most popular beach hangout, known as Gulf Place, into a pedestrian- and bike-friendly environment with aesthetic and facility enhancements along with improved traffic flow from West Beach to East Beach.  Originally called the 'T' by locals, Gulf Place is set in the heart of Gulf Shores at the Hwy 59 & Beach Blvd intersection and features a number of restaurants, retail shops, and the city's largest public beach.  The area serves as a lively entertainment venue and hosts several large events such as the National Shrimp Festival, NCAA Volleyball Tournament, and Hangout Music Festival.  The second phase will encompass West 1st Street to East 1st Street with plans to install a series of traffic lights to allow safer crossovers for residents and tourists walking back and forth to the beach.  One of the largest tasks will be removing the old wooden boardwalk that runs along the main public beach which will be replaced with a more appealing concrete walkway.

Additional improvements to Gulf Place include the following:

  • 8 mast arm traffic lights along Beach Blvd
  • Improved traffic flow and drop-off locations
  • Brand new public restrooms
  • Environmentally-friendly lighting
  • Attractive landscaping
  • Open green spaces
  • Children’s playground
  • Seating and shade structures
  • Improved pedestrian access/safety to beaches

The Gulf Place Revitalization Project is just one facet of Gulf Shores's overall objective "Small Town, Big Beach Vision 2025".  This multi-action plan focuses on creating a sustainable community to accommodate the city's growing tourism and economy while preserving the surrounding environment and natural resources.  The second phase is expected to be complete by April 2018 just in time for one of the city's biggest events, The Hangout Music Festival which takes place during the third weekend of May.  This festival draws in over 30,000 music fans and generates millions of dollars for the city's economy.  While a good portion of accommodations are already booked well in advance, we help visitors by sharing our Closest Condos to Hangout guide to easily find condominiums walking distance to the festival.  For those interested in purchasing beach properties, our site offers detailed real estate information and up-to-date listings for all Gulf Shores Condos and Orange Beach Condos.  We provide helpful features including pre-defined search options, interactive maps, and aerial imagery of condos and homes along the Gulf Coast.  Users can compare prices of recently sold properties or research annual condo revenue averages and ownership costs.
