Just before the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, the Obama family took their traditional winter vacation to Hawaii. President Obama was born in Honolulu in 1961, spent much of his childhood on the same island, and the area continues to be a favorite retreat for the entire Obama family. Between 2008 and 2011 and again in December 2016, the Obama family has favorite the Plantation Estate, part of Paradise Point at Kailua Bay on Oahu. This sprawling retreat, also known as the Obama Winter White House, commands spectacular view of the ocean, a number of luxurious amenities, and a high degree of security for vacationers. Paradise Point is about 25 minutes away from Honolulu and the nearest airport and within easy walking distance of some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

The Plantation Estate has five bedrooms and six bathrooms in a single-level estate with a total living area of 6,896 square feet and a total land area of 27,131 square feet. Walk out into the courtyard and you'll find a gorgeous lagoon-style pool that is heated and surrounded by lush landscaping, waterfalls, and plenty of space to lounge around with friends and family. There is a gazebo with a grills and seating for picnics and a covered patio that is fully furnished and features a kitchenette and TV. Although most of the estate is surrounded by a six-foot high lava wall for security, there are portions of the house and grounds from which visitors have stunning views of the ocean. Plantation Estate is surrounded by a zoned alarm system and the entrance is gated, with security on site.

The amenities at Paradise Point can't be beat! Complimentary concierge service, a personal chef, nearby golf, a fitness center, and massage services are just the tip of the iceberg here. Visitors can arrange reservations at some of the best restaurants in the area, a sailing or kiteboarding adventure, or they can simply walk down to the beach to soak up some sun and play in the water. On those rainy days, nothing beats movie night in the estate's media room with a big bowl of popcorn and cold drinks! Between the stunning beach views, lavish lagoon-style pool, wide variety of amenities, and beautiful landscaping, it's no wonder the Obamas have made Plantation Estate their favorite beach getaway.

The airspace over Oahu was restricted while the president was visiting, but once lifted, the following video offers some great images of the Kailua Bay area in Hawaii. Hawaii has always been perceived as an exotic vacation destination filled with unique landscapes and chock-full of history.  For those looking for beautiful beaches a little closer to home, Trip.com rated Gulf Shores Alabama as the second "Rising Star" destination in the United States for 2017.  Behind Portsmouth, New Hampshire on their list, Gulf Shores offers a "surprisingly exotic Caribbean destination with a southern accent" on the Alabama Gulf Coast.  For comprehensive info, check out our Gulf Shores AL condos for sale page complete with aerial imagery, revenues, recent sales, and lots of other useful info for the Alabama and Northwest Florida Gulf Coast.  Also find more imagery, local news and info socially @gulfcondos
